How Is ‘Quaich’ pronounced?

Anyone attending a ‘Champions of the Quaich’ dinner knows that The Quaich is the Scottish ‘cup of friendship’ which is passed round at the start of the evening. But do you know how to pronounce Quaich?

Most people tend to pronounce Quaich as ‘quake’ with a hard ‘k’ sound and, to be fair, that’s pretty close but Scots, including William Buist, are fussy. So, if you want to get it right in time for the next dinner, you’ll have to practice and master the Scottish ‘ch’ sound which is made from the back of the throat and does not have the more clipped sound of the ‘k’.
